Sometimes people ask me where I go to find my next read. The answer is bookstagram. I have found some absolute favorite books from it: A Man Called Ove, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue and The Invisible Husband of Frick Island. Not only is a wonderfully supportive community, but I never run short on book recommendations!
Here are five of my favorite bookstagrammers to follow:

How would you describe the vibe of your bookstagram account?
It’s ever changing, but currently I feel it’s giving off more of a boho vibe. I tend to change the theme or vibe of my account depending on the season.
What inspired you to join bookstagram?
I have always been a bookworm who loved reading and writing. I never had many people in my life who I could vent, chat or just talk books with and really wanted that in my life. I started following a few of my favorite authors on Instagram and realized there was an entire corner of Instagram dedicated to bookworms like me! Then a year and a half ago I decided to make the leap and make a bookstagram account, and the rest is history! I love this community and have met the most amazing people who share my passion for books!
What’s one of your all-time favorite books and why?
I absolutely dread this question because I love so many books! 🙈 However, if I had to choose only ONE, I’d choose Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien. It is timeless! The characters are extremely well developed, the world building is one of the greatest of all time, and it has inspired me to start writing my own book! I may find other new favorites as the years go by but LOTR will always be #1 in my heart.
What’s one of your favorite books you’ve read this year and why?
My favorite read of 2021 so far is tied between Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco and The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle Jensen. Stalking Jack the Ripper captivated me from the first sentence with the mystery and Sherlock Holmes vibe. The Bridge Kingdom was just as captivating with espionage, arranged marriage and deceit filling every page. Both were 5 star reads for me, and I just can’t choose one over the other at this time!

What genres do you like to read?
I genuinely enjoy reading all genres but overall I just look for good character driven stories… if they have romance that’s a huge plus for me.
How would you describe the vibe of your bookstagram account?
Okay, I actually took a quiz not that long ago and it explained that my style is Halloweencore which basically means spooky and fall mixed into one. I’ve always had an interest in magic and haunted houses which I think stems a lot from growing up in Massachusetts. I would visit Salem pretty often and just felt at home there that I’ve always been drawn to the aesthetic the town has to offer so I wanted to add some of that flair to my account… I hope it comes across that way.
What inspired you to join bookstagram?
My biggest inspiration for joining bookstagram was honestly just hoping to meet a friend I could talk about books with. I didn’t have a huge expectation to joining so I was happy to just meet one person who might have had a similar interest in books. I read a lot, always have, but I’ve never had anyone in my life who understands or is passionate like I am when it comes to reading. Right away I was so lucky to have found a great community and I just celebrated my one year anniversary and I’m so thankful for all this year has offered. I truly never expected that people would actually like what I had to say, the photos I took, or even ask me for book recommendations and take my opinions seriously.
What’s one of your all-time favorite books and why?
Picking a book is always such a tricky question. I really don’t like narrowing it down to one because I feel like I’ve read so many books that have helped me or changed me that it’s a disservice to pick just one…. But I still need to answer this question so I’ll pick Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. If you spend any amount of time on my account it will pop up either in a highlighted post or it’s in the background. I read this book for the first time ten years ago and I have read it countless times since. I didn’t have friends growing up, only books, so this story just made me so attached to the characters they became my friends. I also just felt a lot of hope when I would read the book because the characters go through a lot of challenges but everything works out in the end, which would always makes me feel hopeful that even though things are really hard right now there will always be hope for it to get better.
What’s one of your favorite books you’ve read this year and why?
Okay, this one is so much easier! My favorite book of this year hands down is Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert. The story follows a woman who is living with chronic health conditions which has caused her to retreat from her life and basically give up. However she decides enough is enough and she needs to keep living. She has a list of goals she wants to accomplish, and it just made me so emotional in the best way reading it. She forms a relationship with someone who just understands what she is going through and wants to be there for her, and it just truly felt to me like a real depiction of a relationship. I myself am chronically ill and disabled, so I was very nervous to read this book because I just don’t like to be reminded of my situation and what Chloe went through it seemed to be far too similar to me at times. However, I left this experience feeling actually seen for the first time since I got sick. It felt like another person in my shoes saying, “I got you, and I understand, and we have so much life left, so don’t give up.” I know from a cheesy romance book that might sound like a stretch to you, but I just felt so amazing and hopeful after reading that book I just wish I had better words to express my feelings.

What genres do you like to read?
I mostly read YA and Adult Fantasy but recently my favorite genre has been adult contemporary romance.
How would you describe the vibe of your bookstagram account?
I would have to say that currently my vibe is messy which is between homey and a hint of blueness going around.
What inspired you to join bookstagram?
What inspired me to join bookstagram were the people. When I found out there are people like me who enjoy books, I knew I had to join so I can also share my book addiction with others. Plus I get great book recommendations which doesn’t help my TBR, haha.
What’s one of your all-time favorite books and why?
This is so hard! I would say A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas because it’s beautifully written and I just loved the main character’s character development. Also Rhys is in it so…
What’s one of your favorite books you’ve read this year and why?
I have so many favorites! Here is a list:
- Glint & Gleam (The Plated Prisoner Series book #2 & #3) by Raven Kennedy (This series is so good as it has a great heroine that tries to find her true self, and we need books like this!)
- Kingdom of the Cursed by Kerri Maniscalco (I can’t say much as it’s the second book but if you love demons and devils like me then this book is for you!)
- Neon Gods by Katee Robert (It’s a Hades and Persephone retelling which is one of my favorite retellings and also it was very steamy!)
- It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey (This is a perfect beach read and for lovers of Schitt’s Creek! This book has great characters, storyline, writing and romance!)
- Royal Spy (#2) by Heather Frost (Perfect for fans of Sarah J Maas! The author has an amazing writing style and I loved all the different character POVs! There is so much action that goes on that you won’t be able to stop reading until you finish!)

What genres do you like to read?
I love many genres. Young Adult sci-fi, fantasy and thrillers are my favorites.
How would you describe the vibe of your bookstagram account?
My vibe is simple photos with minimal props. I post a lot of young adult books with the occasional adult, middle grade and picture books. I enjoy doing humorous reels.
What inspired you to join bookstagram?
I wanted to be in a community that loves books. It’s comforting to not feel like I’m the only one who loves books this much.
What’s one of your all-time favorite books and why?
Cress by Marissa Meyer. I love Cress’s intelligence and naïve personality along with the very confident Thorne. I love the mash up of sci-fi and fairy tale retellings. The whole series and novellas are so good.
What’s one of your favorite books you’ve read this year and why?
There are so many. I have to pick Calculated by Nova McBee. It’s an epic thriller with a brave girl prodigy, vile crime bosses and a very hott Chinese boy. The way the story is told with switching back and forth between Jo’s present and past is spectacular. It made me realize I really love thrillers.

How would you describe the vibe of your bookstagram account?

What inspired you to join bookstagram?
When COVID hit, I missed the interaction with friends. Books became a good outlet for me as I dealt with having a 4 year old and 5 year old boys at home 24/7. I loved escaping into a story. As an adult, I’ve been reading more and more each year and I’ve shared on my personal social media and nobody seemed that interested. I was in a few Facebook book groups and people would mention their Bookstagram account which interested me so I finally took the plunge and created mine. It’s been such a great outlet, both creatively and socially. I love everyone I engage with and I love being able to share the books that I love.
What’s one of your all-time favorite books and why?
My heart will always belong to Mr. Darcy and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I was supposed to read it in high school English and I think I did the Cliff Notes but then in college I discovered the A&E Mini Series with Colin Firth and I was hooked. I have seen that too many times to count. When I finally got around to re-reading the book, it was such a comfort read. I had the whole thing essentially memorized but it was so fun to read it on a page versus on my TV screen. This is probably one reason by the Enemies to Lovers trope is my favorite! It all started with Elizabeth and Darcy.
What’s one of your favorite books you’ve read this year and why?
I’ve read a lot of great books this year thanks to Bookstagram recommendations! It’s so hard to pick but I just finished reading The Heart Principle by Helen Hoang and I loved it. It dealt with a lot of heavier subjects, (potential spoilers………) like an autism diagnosis, death in the family and family relationship issues, but also had the sweetest romance. Quan is my new book boyfriend! From the author’s note, it was a semi-memoir and you could just feel how personal this story was in her writing.
