Smart mystery with twists and turns and tons of heart

Book Review

Already blocking off space in my top ten books of 2022 list for this one. This one has everything! It’s a smart thriller with twists and turns, but also tons of heart. It dives into social issues, providing the perfect material for a book club discussion while keeping you turning the pages frantically to find out what happens next.

Molly the maid is as sweet as apple pie, though she thinks differently than everyone else and struggles to understand social situations. She tries so hard to be helpful and good to everyone around her, even when she puts the puzzle pieces together in the wrong way. She has a set of rules to live her life by, and loves best when she’s in her hotel maid uniform, because she knows what to do then. When she discovers the hotel’s richest guest, Mr. Black, dead in his bed, she’s thrust into a world she doesn’t understand. Along the way, she wins her way into the hearts of the reader and many of the characters in the book as well.

Despite being a tightly-paced murder mystery, this book doesn’t shy away from important issues. Instead, it dives into the treatment of neurodivergent people, the plight of illegal immigrants, and right, wrong and the gray areas in-between.

The twists at the end will take your breath away. This book deserves space in every mystery collection from here on out. I predict it will become an instant classic.
